Coach Ross has been coaching for 14 years. Two years at Enumclaw HS, two years at CWU and ten years at Sumner HS (6 years as head coach). He is married to Tracie and has 3 children: Luke (7), Ann Alyse (5), and Eli (22 months). Coach Ross is a teacher at Sumner HS and his hobbies are faith, family, and reading.

David Johnston
Offensive Line, Defensive Line
Coach Johnston, “The Silver Fox” has been coaching for over 20 years. He played football in high school and at the University of Puget Sound. He is married to Gayle, has 3 children: Chris, Jason and Kyle, and 5 grandchildren. Coach Johnston is retired.

Chad Johnson
Offensive Coordinator, Quarter Backs, Free Safeties
Coach Johnson has been coaching for 13 years, eleven years at Sumner HS and two years at Mt. View Jr. High as the head coach. He played football in high school and at the University of Puget Sound. He is married to Kate and has 2 boys: Scott (5) and Owen (3). Coach Johnson is a math teacher and enjoys traveling, Cougar Football, all sports and playing with his 2 sons.

Offensive Line
This is Coach Simonson’s 3rd year coaching for Sumner HS. He played football at Olympia High School and for 5 years at the University of Washington (3 year letterman). He is a Science teacher at Sumner HS, and enjoys golf, bowling, darts, camping, and BBQing

Shawn Finnegan
Defensive Line
Coach Finnegan has been coaching for Sumner HS for 2 years now. He has coached at the University of Mary in North Dakota. Coach Finnegan played football at Modesto Jr. College, and at University of Mary. Coach Finnegan is married to Dana, and is a PE Teacher. Coach Finnegan enjoys golf and is a sports enthusiast.

This is Coach Alvey’s first year coaching for Sumner HS. He played football at Sumner HS and was a 3 year letterman. He is supported by girlfreind Chrissy. Coach Alvey enjoys rugby, outdoors and road trips.

Freshman Coach
This is Coach Grams 1st year coaching for Sumner HS, having coached previously for 5 years. He played football at Sumner High School and was a starting quarterback. He is an Adult Training Specialist for developmentally disabled people and enjoys camping, playing softball and basketball.

Steve Townley
Wide Receivers
Coach Townley is in his 1st year coaching for Sumner HS. He has coached at Foster High School for 3 years. He played in high school from 1990-1993 at Auburn High School as an outside linebacker, wide receiver, and quarterback. Coach Townley is married to Sara, and has two children, Zachary (21/2) and Naomi (6 months). Coach Townley is a math teacher at Sumner HS, and enjoys golfing and reading.

Cody Henningson

This is Coach Henningsons first year coaching for Sumner HS. Coach Henningson played football for Sumner High School from 1997-1999 and was an all league TC/RB and DB, and played at Eastern Oregon University for 5 years as a strong safety. Coach Henningson is supported by his parents Craig and Carol, sisters Corey, Christy, and Courtney, and his brother Cash. He is a specialty contractor for F Rogers and enjoys golfing, snow skiing, basketball and baseball.

This is Coach Ellison’s first year coaching at SHS. He has 2 years of previous coaching experience. Coach Ellison was a 3 year starter for WHS. He is supported by his wife Renee and his son Connor. He is employed in the construction business and enjoys playing football and the PS3.

Certified Athletic Trainer
Becca Novak has been the Sumner HS Athletic Trainer for 5 years now. Ms. Novak works at Outpatient Physical Therapy and enjoys playing softball, golfing, reading, and watching TV. She is supported by her parents, Peter and Wendy, and her sister Trisha.
